Why is medicine not up to date with Lyme research?

The research in the past two years is nothing less than proud breaking, yet many doctors continue to use outdated Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) guidelines as a basis to forego long term antibiotics.

The politics surrounding the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease have hampered effective research and treatment for the last several decades. Federal funding for Lyme disease has lagged behind that of other infectious diseases.

In 2015 CDC researchers  stated that chronic Lyme sufferers have been shown to be as sick as patients with chronic congestive heart failure. Many patients become disabled and if not treated early on in the course of the illness, yet we do not have a scientific consensus as to the cause of ongoing symptoms after more than 35 years of medical research.
